Up-and-coming boxer, Emmanuel Chance from East Orange, NJ was invited as a special guest to lead a 90-minute training session at Southbox Gym for Baychester Middle School students. Assisted by his brother, Jahlyte Chance, the day was arranged to provide inspiration and skill-building. Ring of Hope interns (all Baychester students in the morning boxing program) took the spotlight.
Welcome & Intro
Q&A with the Champ: Students, Kelly Marte and Esterling Valesquez, cultivated their sports reporter skills and led an interview with Emmanuel, examining his journey as a 14-time national champion.
Boxing Training: The Chance brothers coached a ninety-minute boxing session for 30+ students incorporating shadowboxing training, heavy bag drills, noodles, focus mitts, and partner work.
Capturing the Moment: Aria Garcia and Shamya Johnson assisted with content creation efforts, under our supervisor Felicia Kingston. In addition, Leinys Archin, captured moments with a film camera to develop her skills as a sports photographer intern.
Autographs: Emmanuel signed digital photos for the students to keep.
Upon wrapping the event, the students returned on the school bus, buzzing with excitement and proudly displaying their autographed digital pictures.
This event exemplifies ROH's mission: fostering positive change through mentorship, skill development, and community engagement. Emmanuel's legacy serves as a beacon of hope, while ROH interns like Kelly, Esterling, Leinys, Aria, and Shamya are empowered as future leaders in the sports industry.
