Baychester Middle School Launches Morning Boxing Program

Updated: Jun 14

We are pleased to announce our non-profit has partnered with Baychester Middle School to launch a twenty-week boxing program. This initiative is part of Principal Shawn Mangar's vision to inspire students to arrive at school promptly, leveraging the power of sports and discipline.

Empowering Students Through Morning Boxing

This program serves as an opportunity for students to enhance their mood, leading to improved academic and social engagement. The morning boxing program, scheduled to start before the official school day, is strategically designed to inspire students to arrive at school punctually.

By starting the day with an engaging workout, students will cultivate discipline, time management, and cognitive memory. This approach ensures that they are prepared to learn with heightened focus and concentration throughout the remainder of the day.

Comprehensive Workshops for Personal Development

To align with Baychester Middle School's mission for college preparedness, Ring of Hope is introducing a series of workshops designed to strengthen the students connection to the sport. These interactive sessions will cover a range of topics, including:

  1. History of Boxing: Providing insights into the rich cultural and historical aspects of this dynamic sport.

  2. Sports Psychology: Learning mental resilience and strategies for success both in and out of the ring.

  3. Sports Nutrition: Educating students on the importance of proper nutrition for optimal performance.

  4. Careers in Sports: Using sports to leverage resumé and discovering a range of diverse careers in the sports industry.

  5. Entrepreneurship: Inspiring students to explore the business side of sports and discover potential career paths.

  6. Off-Campus Trips: Providing experiential learning opportunities through visits to relevant sports facilities and organizations.

  7. Guest Speakers: Welcoming influential figures from the boxing community to share inspiring stories.

What to Expect:

Led by Raquel Harris, an accomplished athlete and CEO of Ring of Hope, this program is designed for sixty students who will learn the fundamentals of boxing, including footwork, punching techniques, and defense. The curriculum will include entry-level sparring drills, workshops, and off-campus trips.

Fusing Academics and Athletics

This collaboration exemplifies the commitment of both Ring of Hope and Baychester Middle School to comprehensive education. By combining sports, mentorship, and career-focused workshops, we are excited to empower students to become champions beyond the ring.

We look forward to witnessing the positive impact of the morning boxing program.
